In 2020, the "Hong Kong Water Race" was canceled due to the COVID pandemic. After a year of waiting, the Race was successfully held at Shing Mun Reservoir on 22, 23, 29 and 30 May 2021. Close to 1,600 participants joined the Race this year.
"Hong Kong Water Race 2021" was organized in the countryside for the first time. Through the means of nature orienteering, participants can not only see stunning views of the Shing Mun Reservoir, but also escape from the busy city life and get close to nature.
To contain the spread of the disease in the community, the Race changed from a one-day event to a four-day event. Participating teams arrived in batches according to the designated date & time. They visited the preset checkpoints with the help of the Water Race APP within the specified time period. When arriving checkpoints, the attendees scanned the QR code to answer the questions related to water. It facilitated their better understanding of the importance of cherishing every drop of water.
As a co-organiser of the event, WSD representative offers a talk during the online briefing sessions on the issues concerning Hong Kong water resources, aiming to arouse public awareness of water crisis and inspire participants to adopt appropriate water conservation practices in daily life.
