In June 2021, the Ex-Sham Shui Po Service Reservoir (Ex-SSPSR) was accorded a Grade 1 historical building status by the Antiquities Advisory Board. The Water Supplies Department (WSD) has already launched a virtual tour of the service reservoir. WSD now allows restricted opening of the service reservoir for visiting by the public. The visiting programme will be conducted in the form of guided tours with a view to enhance public's understanding of the historical background and appreciate the internal structure of the Ex-SSPSR, so as to increase public’s awareness on conservation of historic waterworks buildings and heritage. WSD welcomes the general public (individuals and groups) to take part in the “Guided Tour to Ex-SSPSR”. Details of the guided tours are as follows:

Application Method
  1. (For individual applicants only) Please submit the application through online booking system at least FOUR days prior to the date of visit. The booking system will show and accept booking for visiting sessions of the guided tours in about 2 months and will be updated at 9:00am on the first working day of each month.
  2. (For group applicants only) Please submit the application through GovHK at least ONE month prior to the preferred date of visit and all the applications will be handled on a first-come-first-served basis. WSD will open and accept booking for visiting sessions of the guided tours in about 2 months and will be updated at 9:00am on the first working day of each month.
  3. All records will be updated at 06:30am on the first working day of each month before the online booking system is reopen for booking.
  4. For individuals requiring assistance from WSD on the online booking or for any enquiries on this event, please contact our enquiry hotline 3583 1184. The operation hour of the enquiry hotline shall be 9:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. every day.
Application Guidance Notes and Rules for Visit (For Individual Applicants)
  1. Participants must be at least 8 years old at the time of visit. In addition, participants are not allowed to enter the Ex-SSPSR with infants.
  2. The maximum number of participants in each guided tour is 38. In addition, each guided tour will be led by one tour guide and two tour guide assistants.
  3. The minimum number of participants in each guided tour is 25. If the enrollment of the guided tour is lower than the minimum number of participants 4 days prior to the date of visit, WSD will notify the affected applicants separately that the visit will be cancelled. WSD will not arrange any make-up tours or make special arrangement to affected participants.
  4. The maximum number of participants for each individual application is 4 (including the applicant).
  5. For persons with special needs interested in joining the guided tour, please contact WSD through our enquiry hotline (3583 1184) or fax (2511 9080) or email (public_relations_unit@wsd.gov.hk). Participants are responsible for their own safety during the tours. WSD staff has the right to refuse any person from joining the tour based on actual situation and needs.
  6. If the applicant wants to cancel the visit reservation, the cancellation request should be made through the online booking system at least FOUR days before the date of visit. If the applicant or participant does not show up at the reserved visiting session, WSD reserves the right to refuse applications from the relevant individuals for visiting any waterworks facilities in the future with an additional time bar. If applicant or participant is not able to join the reserved visiting session due to sickness or unforeseen circumstances, relevant proof to justify the absence with reasonable reasons is required for WSD’s checking such that the relevant application record could be updated.
  7. For any change in the number of participants, the applicant must make such request through our enquiry hotline (3583 1184) or fax (2511 9080) or email (public_relations_unit@wsd.gov.hk) at least one week before the date of visit. WSD's confirmation is required for all applications for change in the number of participants to become effective. Due to limitation on the number of participants for each guided tour, acceptance for change in the number of participants is subject to the final decision of WSD.
  8. All the visit reservations are not transferrable. Once it is found, the right of visits of relevant individuals will be cancelled without further notice.
  9. To enable more people to participate in the visiting programme, applicants and participants are not allowed to make duplicate booking after successfully reserved the visiting session / joining the guided tour. Once it is found, WSD will cancel the visits of relevant individuals without further notice.
  10. Participants shall arrange their own transport to reach / leave the assembly / dismissal point.
  11. Participants are required to arrive at the assembly point on time. Lateness will not be accepted. WSD staff may request participants to present confirmation email of application and relevant identification documents to verify the authenticity of information. WSD staff will also verify the contact numbers by making phone calls if needed. If it is necessary to change the assembly time and/or point or even cancel the scheduled visit due to unexpected circumstances, WSD will notify the participants by telephone as soon as practicable.
  12. The visit will be cancelled automatically if Tropical Cyclone Warning Signal No.3 or above; or Amber Rainstorm Warning Signal or above is in force within 3 hours before the visit is scheduled to begin. Under normal circumstances, WSD will update the record in the morning of next working day.
  13. WSD will decide to continue or suspend the visit depending on the weather or the actual situation of the venue.
  14. WSD reserves the right to cancel any scheduled visit by giving an advance notice. WSD will not arrange any make-up tours or make special arrangement to affected participants.
  15. WSD currently only allows restricted opening of the Ex-SSPSR for visiting by the public. Participants are not allowed to take on the guided tours for other profit-making or non-profit-making purposes, such as street performances, outdoor shows, commercial photography and videography, etc. WSD staff has the right to refuse entry of any persons or ask them to leave the site immediately if they refuse to abide the rules.
  16. Participants are prohibited from using flash-light, lighting apparatus, drones, selfie stick and tripods to take photos/videos during the visit in order to avoid any disturbance to the visit.
  17. Except guide dogs, hearing assistance dogs or service dogs, pets are not allowed to enter the Ex-SSPSR.
  18. WSD will take out local travel insurance for all eligible participants. Each participant will be covered by not less than HK$100,000 personal accident and medical insurance.
  19. Any incomplete, insufficient or incorrect data may affect result of application.
  20. WSD will take photos and videos during the visit and may use the photos and videos for purpose of promotion and publicity. Should participants do not agree with such arrangement, please inform the tour guide on the date of visit and sign on the form of "Notice of Objection for Use of Photos and Videos Taken during the Event for the Purpose of Promotion and Publicity".
  21. WSD is exempted from all the liabilities of claims, costs, damages and expenses in respect of any damage, injury or loss to the participants or their properties occasioned by or in any way arising from the visit or any purpose pertaining to or associated with the visit.

WSD accept group applications from all organisations which can show proof of their organisation (e.g. school registration, business registration, registration of society, company chops, etc.) such as educational institutions, professional institutions, community centres, elderly homes, private companies, etc.
  2. Participants must be at least 8 years old at the time of visit. In addition, participants are not allowed to enter the Ex-SSPSR with infants.
  3. The maximum number of participants in each guided tour is 38. In addition, each guided tour will be led by one tour guide and two tour guide assistants.
  4. The minimum number of participants in each guided tour is 25 including teachers or staff. If the number of attendants of the applied organisation showed up at the reserved visiting session does not meet the minimum requirement, WSD reserves the right to refuse applications from relevant parties for visiting any waterworks facilities in the future with an additional time bar.
  5. WSD may arrange for more than one group to participate in the same guided tour if necessary.
  6. Schools or organisations are not allowed to make profit by arranging visit tours to WSD’s installations. All the visit reservations are not transferrable. Once it is found, the right of visits of relevant schools or organisations will be cancelled.
  7. Group applicants that have successfully submitted their e-forms will receive the reference numbers provided by WSD. The successful submission of an application and receipt of a reference number provided by WSD does not mean that a quota has been reserved for an applicant. If an applicant has successfully reserved a quota, WSD will notify the applicant through SMS and email.
  8. Upon receipt of the application, WSD will normally inform the successful group applicants through SMS and email at least 2 weeks before the date of visit.
  9. For groups with special needs interested in joining the guided tour, please contact WSD through our enquiry hotline (3583 1184) or fax (2511 9080) or email (public_relations_unit@wsd.gov.hk). Guidance Notes for Participants
  1. Points to note before the visit:
    • We endeavour to offer a safe environment and enjoyable experience for all of the participants. Participants should ensure that their health conditions are good on the date of visit. If there is any discomfort or develop obvious symptoms (e.g. fever, cough, shortness of breath, vomiting and diarrhoea), it is not recommended to participate in the visit.
    • For the sake of safety, staff of the Water Supplies Department (WSD) may reject anyone whose health conditions are considered unsuitable for participation and those who have symptoms of infectious diseases from participating in the visit. WSD will not arrange any make-up tours or make special arrangement to the concerned participants.
    • If the body temperature of a participant is higher than 37.5°C, our staff will terminate his/her participation in the visit.
    • Toilet will not be provided for public in the venue. Participants should use the toilets nearby before attend the visit.
  2. Recommended participants’ equipment:
    • Please wear suitable clothes and sport shoes.
    • Personal cleansing supplies (such as hand sanitizer and disinfectant wet tissues)
    • Anti-mosquito products (such as mosquito repellent)
    • Earphones with 3.5mm Plug (to connect individual audio receivers to be distributed during the visit)
    • Rain gear
    • Drinking water
  3. Points to note during the visit:
    • Please follow the tour guide’s instructions during the visit and do not get into forbidden areas (e.g. areas fenced off by railings) to stay safe. WSD will not be responsible for any injuries.
    • Participants should pay attention to their own safety and take care of their personal belongings during the visit. WSD will not be responsible for any loss or damage.
    • Please do not leave the tour during the visit without notification. If participants have to take an early leave, they are required to fill in the early leave form.
    • Participants are requested not to drink or eat throughout the visit (except drinking water and taking medicine).
    • Participants are reminded to maintain good personal hygiene and appropriate social distancing throughout the visit. Litter should be taken away by visitors.
    • Please do not perform any actions that could potentially harm any surroundings or any part of structures throughout the visit (e.g. drawing on the wall, kicking the stone pillar, etc). WSD reserves the right to claim compensation for any loss or damage.

The Water Supplies Department of the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region ("WSD") is concerned to ensure that all personal data submitted through WSD’s “Guided Tour to Ex-Sham Shui Po Service Reservoir” Internet website are handled in accordance with the relevant provisions of the Personal Data (Privacy) Ordinance (PDPO).

Collection of Personal Data

The WSD will record visits to our Internet website without collecting any personal identifiable information of users. Such general statistics are collected for the compilation of statistical reports and the diagnosis of problems with or concerning computer systems to help improve our Internet website.

WSD collects personal information when you register with our online services.Personal information may include name, HKID Number, telephone number, mailing address, e-mail address or account number on water bill. The provision of information is voluntary. If you do not provide sufficient information, we may not be able to process your application or request. Please ensure that the information provided is accurate. The WSD will specify the collection purpose and intended usage of your data when it invites you to provide such information and advise you how you may request access to or correction of the personal data provided.

Use of Personal Data

WSD uses personal information for the following general purposes: fulfill your requests for services, improve our services, contact you, conduct research, and provide anonymous reporting for internal use etc.

The information provided by you may be disclosed to other Government bureaux, departments and related organisations for the purpose mentioned above. Unless permitted or required by law, WSD will not disclose your personal data to other non-related third parties without your prior consent.

Access to Personal Data

Under the PDPO, you have the right to request access to or correction of the personal data provided. Such requests should be made in the Data Access Request Form OPS003 and sent to us by mail to the Public Relations Unit of the Water Supplies Department. By virtue of Section 20(3)(e) of the PDPO, a data access request may be refused if it is not made in this form. The Form is available in the Reception Counter of the Water Supplies Department Head Office and any District Office or can be downloaded at Office of the Privacy Commissioner for Personal Data's website.

WSD uses SSL protocol to encrypt data during network transmission to protect your personal data. All personal data you provide to the WSD via our Internet website are secured, and access to them is restricted to authorised personnel only.
