With a view to raising public awareness on water conservation and promoting the use of water saving devices, the Water Supplies Department and the Federation of Hong Kong Industries jointly organised the "Innovative Water Efficient Showerhead Design Competition". The response was overwhelming with over 150 applications being received and all winning entries were selected by the Adjudication Panel through a stringent selection process consisted of Preliminary Selection and the Final Presentation. In recognition of the winners' outstanding performance, an Award Ceremony was held at INDEX, Kwun Tong on 17 October 2020 and the Competition result was announced in the event.
In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Award Ceremony was downsized which restriction on the number of participants was put in place; all attendants were also arranged to sit in alternate seats to maintain an appropriate social distance and reduce the risk of spreading of virus.
The Assistant Director / Development of Water Supplies Department, Mr. WONG Yan-lok, Roger commended the innovativeness of entrants and corporates. He also called on every participant to make an effort to save water in their daily lives, as well as encouraging the use of water saving devices and spreading the messages of cherishing water to their families and peers.
The first exhibition showcased all winning entries was kicked off at the venue to recognise the remarkable performance and achievements of winners. Conceptual designs of Gold, Silver and Bronze Award of "Academic Section" were produced as prototypes, which enabled visitors and industry practitioners to have a concrete and thorough understanding on the entries’ design concepts and water efficient elements.
"Innovative Water Efficient Showerhead Design Competition" is one of the significant programmes of "Let's Save 10L Water 2.0" Campaign. Participants were welcome to take part in 2 categories of entries namely "Academic Section" and "Professional Section". Eight awards including Gold, Silver and Bronze Award were allocated for each category. The "Roving Exhibition of Winning Entries" is tentatively scheduled in the second half of 2021.
