To raise environmental awareness of the Hong Kong public, Green Council has designated the United Nations' annual "World Environment Day" on 5 June as "Hong Kong Green Day" since 2013, kicking off an array of environmental education programmes throughout the month of June.
This year, actress Ms. Charmaine SHEH was invited as "Hong Kong Green Day Ambassador" once again, and several videos hosted by her under the event theme, "Ecosystem Restoration", were produced to cultivate the public to go green in fighting the COVID-19 virus. The event was well received by the business with over 80 corporates signed for the "Green Pledge". In partnership with approximately 150 "Green Shops" and "Green Restaurants", they devoted to implement long-term green measures at offices and stores, as well as spreading the message of green living in daily life to their clients and partners.
Other major programmes of the 9th "Hong Kong Green Day" included "Green Cooking Competition", "Green Hunt Online Quiz Competition", etc. Whilst, "Go Green, Act Green Inter-school Contests", "Dress Green Campaign" and "Best Urban Garden Competition" succeeded in gaining enthusiastic support from more than 50 schools and 20 corporates or organisations, with over 11,000 students, teachers and staff members actively participated.
Additionally, "Hong Kong Green Day 2021" was officially registered as a member of over 1,000 international events echoed with the United Nations' "World Environment Day", joining hands with the global to Go Green, Act Green!
As a supporting organisation, social media platforms and the Internet were adopted actively by the WSD to get across publicity messages of the event, and thus to encourage the public to attach importance, get to know and lead a green life.
